THE ART
OF
MOURNING
Spring/Summer
2025 Graduate Collection
Rooted in a reinterpretation of Victorian silhouettes and the intimate craft of Victorian mourning hair art, The Art of Mourning explores themes of memory, loss, love, and community. Since December, I have been collecting hair from friends and family—a quiet act of care and connection that forms the emotional core of the work. These strands, symbols of both presence and absence, are transformed into elevated appliqué: braided, embroidered across panels, set into seams as fringe, organized into gradients, or encased within the garment between layers of silk organza.
This collection is as much about craft as it is about catharsis. Made during a time of personal mourning, The Art of Mourning honors grief as a generative force, one that ties us to each other, and to the past. In weaving hair and memory into each piece, I offer garments that are intimate archives, preserving the quiet traces of relationship, love, and collective memory.
